Jet Mixer (Y-Jet)
Low Shear In-Tank Mixing and Solids Suspension
The Quadro Ytron® Jet Mixer uses a low shear rotor-stator mixing head to create a unique tank flow pattern which efficiently and uniformly maintain solids in suspension or quickly blend liquids together. The discharge jet produced by the Y-Jet head creates a top-to-bottom rollover in the tank which eliminates the inefficient radial flow pattern common to traditional agitators and other open-impeller mixers.
The Y-Jet mixing pattern will not create a liquid vortex, which means hard-to-clean tank baffles can be eliminated and product air entrainment is no longer an issue. The strong axial flow pattern produced by the Y-Jet Mixer is also ideal for suspension and re-suspension of high settling rate solids.
Rapid Sub-Surface Powder Dispersion and Dust-Free Handling
An innovative bypass tube option for the Y-Jet Mixer makes use of the suction generated by the jet intake to draw powders and liquids directly into the rotor-stator head. The result is an immediate sub-surface dispersion of powders or even viscous pastes into the primary liquid phase. Shear energy is only applied to the dispersed ingredients as they leave the bypass tube and enter the jet head, which applies uniform energy to the product and is equivalent to single-pass incorporation.
Depending on the nature of the dry ingredients, a variety of dust-free powder handling methods are available for delivering powders to the bypass tube (e.g. wanding from bags or totes). Dust-free handling reduces health and safety concerns, minimizes cross-contamination and eliminates the need for expensive material conveyors.
In-Tank Jet Mixer Performance and Advantages
- Eliminates vortexing and unwanted product air entrainment
- Eliminates problems with stratification and dead mixing areas throughout the vessel
- Reduces blend times by as much as 80%
- Easily suspends and re-suspends high-settling-rate solids
- Significantly improves heat transfer rates
- Easily maintains complete tank motion of non-Newtonian fluids
