HV-Emulsifier, Homogenizer and Wet Mill
Submicron Homogenizing or High Shear Wet Milling
The Quadro Ytron® HV can be used for wet milling and as a homogenizer. It can be optimized depending on the application and is available in two configurations; either as the HV-Emulsifier for submicron homogenizing, or as the HV-Wet Mill for micronizing suspensions and slurries.
The unique high speed design of the Ytron HV enables accelerated rotor-stator velocities and an exponential increase in available shear energy. At a maximum rotational speed equivalent to 70m/s the HV produces more than fifty five times (55x) the high shear energy of a conventional rotor-stator mill.
Submicron Emulsions, Dispersions, and Suspensions
Due to an exponential increase in shear energy as tip speed increases, the HV-Emulsifier can produce submicron emulsions without the subsequent processing of a high-pressure homogenizer. (Refer to figure below)
High pressure homogenizers commonly suffer from restricted capacity, high energy consumption, and frequent maintenance requirements, all of which add to the cost of processing submicron emulsions. These industry issues can now be overcome with an HV-Emulsifier solution to maximize productivity while cutting the cost of production.
Suspension Milling, Micronization, and In-Line Particle Size Reduction
The HV-Wet Mill defines new limits in high shear milling energy and closes the gap in performance between traditional in-line mixers and media mill technology. This innovative particle size reduction mechanism provides a high value alternative to traditional media milling. Suspension milling and micronization processes can now be accomplished without the use of difficult-to-clean and time consuming media mills. (Refer to figure below)
Homogenizing / Wet Milling Performance and Advantages
- High speed HV tooling generates 55x more shear energy than other in-line rotor-stator mixers making submicron processing possible
- Higher HV capacities will save significant process time over conventional high-pressure homogenizers and media mills
- Capital equipment costs are generally 70% less than homogenizers and dry powder mills
- Quadro Ytron® HV machines can be easily retrofitted into existing facilities
- High shear wet milling often doesn’t require additional dedicated containment facilities
- Ideal choice for heat-sensitive materials, as liquid in the slurry can remove heat generated by the milling process

Emulsifier and Wet Mill Model Specifications
The HV-Series of inline mills offer precise process scaling from lab formulation, to pilot and production processing with three different models ranging from 7.5-60 Hp depending on desired capacity. All models utilize optimized high shear tooling that operates at tip speeds up to 70m/s with the lowest power consumption in the industry, in addition to a sanitary high-speed mechanical seal that eliminates potential trap areas around the rotor shaft for improved CIP/SIP results.
Various other equipment options are available including a selection of motors, controls, portable bases, etc. Please contact us for more information.
