Creams and Lotions - Emulsifying & Dispersing

Background

Creams and lotions are used in a wide variety of applications in the Personal Care, Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical industries. Many of these products are either an oil-in-water or water-in-oil emulsion consisting of a combination of emulsifying and thickening agents, emollients, perfume, color and preservatives. The in-line Z Emulsifier can easily produce a more consistent, superior quality emulsion in less time than conventional in-tank high-shear mixers.

Improve Product Quality

  • Ensures repeatable, consistent product batch-to-batch with single-pass processing
  • Increased product shelf-life and stability
  • Prevents phase separation
  • Improved product “sheen” and texture

Reduce Production Costs

  • Higher capacity than in-tank mixers, colloid mills and low pressure piston homogenizers
  • Reduced energy requirements
  • Reduces batch times by 80%

Sanitary Design

  • Sanitary design with quick connect clamps for easy inspection and cleaning
  • All contact components made from stainless steel
  • CIP design

Creams & Lotions

The Quadro Ytron in-line Z Emulsifier is designed for versatility. It provides its users with new and more efficient approaches to traditional processing techniques. The Z Emulsifier can be used in either batch or continuous processing mode to produce stable emulsions of creams and lotions. When set up for single-pass operation, the Z Emulsifier offers unparalleled consistency and repeatability in process results.

Typical Applications

  • Replace shear pumps and colloid mills with improved results (15 - 25% higher viscosity for emulsions), higher through puts using less power
  • Replace inefficient, in-tank high shear “homo” mixers -reduces batch times and improves product quality
  • Replace low pressure piston homogenizers by providing higher through puts with less energy per volume processed

Quadro's Approach

  • Product enters housing axially.
  • One or more liquid phases and suspended particles are pumped through 1, 2 or 3 sets of toothed rotors/stators.
  • Controlled, high-intensity shear is delivered equally to all fluid elements, regardless of product characteristics.
  • Shear rate is constant, dependent only on rotor/stator toothselection and rotor tip speed.
